Nepal Flash Floods 2026: Himalayan Care Hands Supports Families in Nuwakot

Severe flash floods in Nepal have caused devastating loss of life and widespread destruction across several districts, leaving families displaced and communities struggling with damage to homes, roads, bridges and essential infrastructure.

The disaster struck on 26 August 2026, when severe flooding swept through the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river corridors. Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading were among the districts seriously affected, with communities along the rivers facing extensive damage.

In Nuwakot, areas including Devighat were particularly badly affected. Homes, businesses, roads and other infrastructure were damaged or swept away, while many families were forced to seek temporary shelter.

As rescue, relief and recovery efforts continued across the affected areas, Himalayan Care Hands responded by providing essential supplies directly to families and locations in need.

Himalayan Care Hands Responds to the Nuwakot Floods

On 6 September 2026, Himalayan Care Hands successfully carried out an emergency relief distribution program in Nuwakot, supporting approximately 100 flood-affected families.

Our relief efforts reached five locations:

• Devighat
• Bidur
• Child Shelter
• Ayurved Hospital Shelter

The distribution was organized according to the actual needs and necessities of each location rather than providing the same package everywhere. This helped ensure that available support was used where it could make the greatest practical difference.

Essential Relief Supplies for Flood-Affected Families

The emergency supplies included food and cooking essentials, tents, blankets, hygiene supplies, cleaning materials, emergency lights and children's items.

Different locations faced different challenges. Families who had lost household belongings required everyday essentials, while shelters and community facilities had their own urgent needs for bedding, hygiene materials, lighting and other practical supplies.

Our team therefore worked to distribute each type of relief material where it was most needed.

Devighat Among the Hardest-Hit Communities

Devighat in Nuwakot suffered extensive damage during the flash floods. Floodwaters, mud and debris severely affected homes, businesses, roads and community infrastructure.

For families who suddenly lost their homes, possessions or livelihoods, the period immediately following the disaster has been extremely difficult.

Providing emergency supplies cannot replace what people have lost, but timely assistance can help families meet some of their most immediate needs while communities begin the long process of recovery.
