Progress and Hope at Aalapot Health Post
Imagine a small house, originally meant for a single family, transformed into a health post that now serves over 10,000 people in the Aalapot area, just 20 km east of Kathmandu. What might seem like a mission impossible is the daily reality for Dr. Jagat Nepali and his dedicated team of three staff members. With limited resources but an abundance of skill, patience, and determination, they have been providing essential healthcare to their community for years.
Dr. Nepali’s enthusiasm is matched only by his resilience. Every day, he examines and treats countless patients—often without access to basic medicines or supplies. Simple items like bandages, antibiotics, or even paracetamol are scarce. He recalls the frustration of not being able to give a patient proper anesthesia for a tooth extraction or prescribe the needed medicine. Yet, despite these limitations, he continues his work with tireless commitment, making difficult choices with the little he has.
A Bright New Chapter
Thankfully, the future is looking brighter. With government support, the health post has now grown into its own hospital building, equipped with better facilities to serve the growing population. Aalapot Health Post now proudly offers:
Laboratory facilities for blood testing
A dedicated maternity ward, where many successful deliveries have already been recorded
Improved infrastructure to admit patients during emergencies
This progress is further strengthened through the ongoing collaboration between Himalayan Care Hands Nepal and Himalayan Care Hands Holland. Recently, they jointly donated a modern delivery bed and an advanced lab machine for blood tests, ensuring safer maternal care and more accurate diagnostics.
Small Steps, Big Impact
The journey of Aalapot Health Post has been remarkable. What started with only the bare minimum now includes life-saving tools such as a blood pressure monitor and a portable ultrasound machine—the latter generously donated by a Belgian hospital. This device is already making a difference in monitoring the healthy growth of unborn children, giving families peace of mind and doctors valuable insights.
Our Commitment
We are deeply grateful for the progress achieved so far and proud to be part of this mission of hope. The transformation of Aalapot Health Post reflects what is possible when communities, doctors, and helping hands across borders come together. With every new facility, every donated machine, and every successful birth, we move closer to making basic healthcare a reality for all.
